Serious professionals need serious machines to do their job. This is why Olympus, a leading manufacturer of professional dictation machines created the impressive DS5000 digital voice recorder, a popular replacement to its predecessor the DS4000.

Packed with features that you want like a silky smooth and precise 4-position slide switch, backlit LC-Display, programmable buttons and features you need like password protection, an ultra durable design and speech recognition compatibility, it's no wonder that the DS5000 has quickly become a professional's best friend. The DS5000 by Olympus ships with a docking station for offloading and recharging, all the goodies to connect it to your PC or Mac, and the powerful DSS Player Pro software to automate offloading and sending of your audio files.

Precise, 4-Position Slide Switch

The DS5000 is reminiscent of the old style cassette dictation machines with its smooth and precise 4-position slide switch. The tactile feel of the switch is familiar for all who have used a 4-position slide switch in the past and easily enables confident single-handed use.

Three Programmable Buttons

Easily utilize the programmable buttons for quick access to the features you use the most on your DS5000. Simply plug in your recorder and open the DSS software that comes included. Programming the buttons for your desired tasks is simple.

Secure for HIPAA/HITECH

The DS5000 offers password protection and onboard file encryption to keep your information safe, confidential and secure. This Olympus recorder is one of the first in the industry to be HIPAA-compliant.

Full Dictation Control

Professionals love the 4-position slide switch but also the DS5000's advanced dictation functions like append, insert, overwrite and partial delete. While most lower end recorders don't allow for incremental rewind, this professional model does and it pulls it off in a beautiful, easy to use way. Simply hold down the slide switch in the rewind position and the LCD will show you just where you are in your dictation. Slide back up to insert (or overwrite) directly into your existing dictation file. Marking or unmarking a dictation priority is as simple as touching a button.

Compact And Durable Design

The DS5000 offers a compact design and a sturdy, light metal finish. This not only looks like a professional device, but feels like one too. The DS5000 is designed to withstand the punishment only a professional user can subject a machine to. The ultra durable switches and buttons keep this machine working time and time again.

DS5000 Keeps You Organized

With seven folders, each storing up to 200 files, the DS5000 by Olympus makes organizing audio files easy.

Plugs Right Into Speech Recognition

Do you ever dream of talking to your digital recorder and it turning into text? The Olympus DS5000, when combined with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, makes this a dream come true. Dictate your notes with or without natural language commands and simply dock your recorder. Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional, Medical or Legal versions will then import your recording and begin to transcribe it automatically. It works like magic!

Digital Speech Standard (.dss)

The DS5000 by Olympus uses the international standard .dss file format for professional speech processing. With two quality modes to choose from, the .dss file format offers fantastic audio quality for recorded voice and all .dss file formats allow for a high compression rate. This makes the .dss file perfect for internet or network transfers. The .dss Pro format enables real-time file encryption for security and peace of mind. Both formats allow demographic data to be included with the audio, like Author ID. The Olympus DS5000 is also fully compatible with GearPlayer transcription software.

Work on a Mac or Windows, the Choice is Yours.

The DS5000 is compatible with Windows 2000 (SP4) XP (SP2, 32bit & 64 bit), Vista (32 and 64 bit) and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) along with Macintosh 10.3.9 through 10.6.x. TranscriptionGear does not support Macintosh installations.

Hands Free Dictation is a Snap.

With two sensitivity modes, the DS5000 functions well in both Dictate and Conference recording modes. The Voice Activation feature makes it easy to cut out long pauses or delays in your dictation notes, helping to streamline transcription.

With the available RS27 foot pedal, you can have full, hands free control of the DS5000. Simply plug the foot pedal into the back of the docking station, dock your recorder and get started. It really is that easy.

Good product. It was a bit difficult to set up, but with the help of technical support, it was installed and works good. I suggest you get a month of the VIP Care so you can get your recorder set up and running, worth the extra $30 bucks.
