Did you know there are two different kinds of standard sized cassettes available?

Did you know there are two different kinds of standard sized cassettes on the market today? One is a dictation tape the other is an audio tape. Dictation tapes do not have the clear band of tape at the beginning of each cassette. If you see this clear band of tape at the beginning of your cassette, then you are using an audio tape and run the risk loosing the first 3-7 seconds of dictation.    TOP

Did you know that foot controls do not function on a computer unless corresponding transcription software is installed first? The foot control and software must be compatible with each other in order to function properly.    TOP

Did you know that DSS files are much better than wav files for dictation?

DSS files are highly compressed voice files and are therefore easier to send as email attachments. sixteen minutes of dictation would create a 1MB DSS file, whereas it would only take 2 minutes for a WAV format to fill a 1MB file. As some ISPs limit the size of file they will allow to be transferred, clients may experience problems trying to send WAV files.    TOP

Did you know that multi-track cassette recordings and single-track may not be compatible with one another?

Did you know that cassettes recorded in a multi-track recorder may not be compatible with a single-track transcriber? Some companies record in a proprietary format that requires using the corresponding transcribe machine.

Machines such as the Lanier Advocate series are a special machine designed to record on multiple tracks for things such as court recording, where multiple microphones may be used. The companion transcriber is required to properly play back these types of cassettes.     TOP

Although you can hear sound out of both ears when your headset is plugged into your cassette transcriber, it is considered a "mono" sound. This same headset will not work in a PC or CD player. These devices are stereo. If you attempt to use your mono headset in your stereo device, you will more than likely only hear out of one ear and vice versa.     TOP

3.5 MM plugs come in different types. There are straight plugs and right-angle plugs. The only difference between these two plugs is their physical shape and they can be interchanged at will as long as there is not a physical limiting factor stopping you such as the design of the machine.    TOP
